Partners
The Freshwater Biodiversity Data Portal for Uganda is a product of contributions from a number of partners that collaborate with the National Fisheries Resources Research Institute (NaFIRRI). These partners comprise institutions from research, civil society, advocacy, and information technology background with a strong commitment to open data.
Nugsoft Technologies. Nugsoft is the leading in all the programming aspects of this data portal
National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA). We are working with the NEMA to link the outputs of this portal with their partners in Government, and to influence the utilization of data in policy planning, including the use of all the mobilized data in developing baselines for NBSAP II (2015-2025).
Wildlife conservation society (WCS). We are working with the WCS to use the mobilized data in mapping and promoting key biodiversity areas (KBAs). These areas are important for providing protection to threatened species that are not in gazetted protected areas.
JRS Biodiversity Foundation. JRS has provided primary funding for development of this data portal.
International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). We are working with the IUCN to use the data in this portal to assess extinction risk of species (Redlist Assessements) and mapping of key biodiversity areas (KBAs).
Makerere University. We are working with the Department of Zoology, Entomology and Fisheries Sciences (ZEFS) to facilitate capacity building in bio-informatics.
Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF). The GBIF has made immense contribution towards development of capacity in biodiversity informatics (especially in mobilization, sharing, and use of biodiversity data) at NaFIRRI
