Fish species composition of the upper Nile basin (RMCA expedition) DataSet Details

Description:

This dataset comprises occurrence records from expeditions of the upper Nile basin (lakes Victoria, Edward, Kyoga and Albert basins) by the RMCA under HIPE project.

Purpose:

This dataset can be used to generate fish species checklists for hydro-basins in the upper Nile basin (especially for the least sampled waterbodies-rivers, streams, and swamps).

Temporal scope:

2016-2018

Taxonomic scope:

8 orders (Anabantiformes, Siluriformes, Cichliformes, Cypriniformes, Ceratodontiformes, Osteoglossiformes, Cyprinidontiformes,
Characiformes); 15 families; 40 genera; 55 species

Methodology:

Seasonal sampling; two expeditions during the wet season (October 2016, March 2017) and one expedition during the dry season (January 2018). Specimens were either caught using gillnets (mesh sizes of 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, 25, 30 or 40 mm), with scoop nets, and electrofishing. Details can be found in Decru et al. (2020)
